Michael Rolland

Michael Rolland was appointed OMERS Chief Investment Officer, Private Markets on September 1, 2014. In this role, his responsibilities include being the President and CEO of OMERS Infrastructure, the investment management arm of OMERS global infrastructure portfolio and the President and CEO of OMERS Private Equity, the investment management arm of OMERS global private equity portfolio.

OMERS directly owns and actively manages the significant majority of its private market investments. Overseeing OMERS Private Markets portfolios, with net equity investments in excess of C$24 billion*, Mr. Rolland leads international teams that focus on disciplined investing in high-quality companies with strong management aim to deliver stable, long term returns.

Prior to his current role at OMERS, Mr. Rolland was directly responsible for leading the evolution of OMERS infrastructure investment arm into a leading global investor in large-scale assets.

Mr. Rolland has a diverse background in accounting, commercial finance and a broad range of industry sectors and holds the Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Accountant designations. He holds an Honours Business Administration Degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business.

Ralph Berg

In his role as Executive Vice President and Global Head of Infrastructure, Ralph leads the OMERS Infrastructure team on a global basis.

Since joining OMERS in February 2013, he has been a key member of the Infrastructure investment team, playing a leadership role in investment origination, acquisition and asset management including with Caruna, Ellevio and Net4Gas.

Prior to joining OMERS Infrastructure, Ralph was a Managing Director and the Head of the European Energy & Power Team at Credit Suisse, where he spent seven years advising clients in M&A, IPO and structured finance transactions. Before that, he worked in the Energy team at Deutsche Bank in New York and London for almost 12 years. He has transaction and advisory experience on infrastructure investments as diverse as power generation, transmission, distribution, oil and gas exploration, production, transport, refining and distribution, as well as water and waste.

Ralph holds a Law Degree from the Universidad de Buenos Aires.

Mark Redman

Mark joined OMERS Private Equity and opened its London office in 2009. Since then, Mark has led the development of a direct-investment capacity for Private Equity in Europe. Six transactions have been successfully completed, comprising the acquisitions of V.Group, Lifeways, Civica, Vue Entertainment and ERM, as well as a co-investment in Hayfin Capital Management. Mark currently chairs the boards of V.Group, Vue and ERM.

Before joining Private Equity, Mark spent 13 years at 3i. Following four years in Watford and London, he spent seven years helping develop 3i's new Amsterdam office, covering the Benelux region. Mark subsequently developed 3i's market entry strategy for Turkey. Prior to this, Mark worked at Grant Thornton in London for seven years.

Mark is also Chairman of the London Chamber Orchestra, which founded in 1921 is the UK's oldest professional chamber orchestra, with players drawn from the ranks of London's leading orchestras.

Mark has an MA in Modern History from St Anne’s College, Oxford University. He is also an ACA Chartered Accountant.

John Knowlton

John is currently Executive Vice President, Legal, responsible for leading the OMERS Infrastructure and OMERS Private Equity legal teams. John started at OMERS Infrastructure in 2005.

John is active with several investments and is, or has been, on the board of numerous investments, including LifeLabs, DynaLife and Teranet. Prior to this, John was senior legal counsel at Bombardier Transportation, where he advised on the pursuit of new transit projects around the globe, including Greece, South Korea, the U.K., Canada and the U.S. John began his career at Torys LLP.

John holds an Honours BA (Economics) from University of Western Ontario, and an MBA and LL.B. from University of Ottawa.

Serena Lefort

Serena is currently Executive Vice President, Finance Operations & Tax and, in that capacity, leads the finance and tax groups of both OMERS Infrastructure and OMERS Private Equity. She is also the Head of Tax for OMERS.

Serena came on board in 2012 as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer to oversee all aspects of the private equity finance function, including tax structuring and supporting the direct drive strategy. She is a former M&A Tax Partner at KPMG LLP, and was the Chief Financial Officer of a Canadian national pharmaceutical distributor, where she gained extensive hands-on strategic, operational and M&A experience.

Serena has an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University and holds the CPA and CA designations.

Paul Calder

Paul currently serves as Managing Director, Investment Risk Management. In this role, he is responsible for providing direction and leadership to both OMERS Infrastructure and OMERS Private Equity in the ongoing development of a leading investment risk-management program to reduce volatility, actively manage portfolio and transaction-pursuit risk, and support the evolution of infrastructure investment strategies. Paul's asset management experience includes: Associated British Ports, DynaLIFE and Teranet.

Paul previously spent 10 years with Standard & Poor's in its infrastructure group, evaluating toll facilities, ports, airports, P3 projects, general transportation assets and public finance.

Paul has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Bishop’s University. He is a CFA® charterholder, and he has also obtained his Chartered Director (C. Dir.) designation.

Arlette Edmunds

Arlette Edmunds

Arlette is Vice President, Human Resources with OMERS Private Markets and, in that capacity, she leads the Human Resources function for both OMERS Infrastructure and OMERS Private Equity across global offices in Toronto, New York, London and Sydney.

Prior to joining in 2013, Arlette was a successful entrepreneur, creating an online retailer of children’s clothing and accessories. Before that, Arlette spent more than 15 years in human resources in the financial industry, where she worked with management teams at TD Securities in capital markets, including leading the Employee Experience globally, at Merrill Lynch, working in wealth management, and consulting for Deloitte in Financial Advisory Services. 

Arlette studied business administration at Seneca College in Toronto, and has her post-diploma in Human Resources. She is a Certified Human Resources Professional and a Certified Human Resources Leader.
